I’ve prepared a short post about products to use while heat styling to stop it from leaving the hair dry and straw-like.

I’m sure you know the scenario: you shampoo, blow-dry and straighten nearly every day, and the hair gets worse – dry, dull and brittle – day by day, and finally, you’re left with strands looking like straw.
You’re wondering why this happens? Well, damage is unavoidable if you heat-style your hair without protection!
Safe heat styling is possible but we need to think about it soon enough. Instead of repairing the hair, it’s better to protect it against thermal damage. How? By using heat protectant sprays, oils or creams.
What to use for guarding the hair against thermal damage?
I’ve used heat protection sprays for years, and highly recommend them. I know there are many fans of oils or leave-in conditioners with similar effects, but I’m a ‘spray person’ – sprays are light, non-overburdening, lightly enveloping the hair and they always come in handy. The light texture goes hand in hand with high effectiveness – provided that we pick the right heat protectant spray.

#1 Nanoil Heat Protectant Spray

#2 Kérastase Genesis Défense Thermique Fluid
EFFECT: One of the most popular heat styling sprays. The pink-colored hair mist from Kérastase reduces harmfulness of high temperatures and strengthens the hair while styling. It builds a protective coating which holds moisture in the hair preventing dryness. It’s been designed for weak and brittle hair, nourishing, softening and adding resilience.
INGREDIENTS: If we check the INCI list, it looks like a silicone-based hair conditioner. Apart from silicones, it’s rich in coconut oil and extracts from edelweiss and ginger root.
TEXTURE: Kérastase Genesis Défense Thermique Fluid is like a mild cream. It isn’t thick so it goes well with fine hair lacking volume. It has a subtle, nice aroma, but I can’t skip the fact I ran out of it quickly.

#3 Moroccanoil Color Complete Protect Prevent Spray
EFFECT: This heat protection spray is made for colored hair and its main job is stopping the color from fading and looking dull. It shields against heat while blow-drying or flat-ironing as well as other damaging factors such as strong sunlight or air pollution. Moroccanoil Color Complete Protect Prevent Spray leaves the hair easy to detangle, nourishes, adds shine and prevents brassy hair. It’s a typical spray for colored hair.
INGREDIENTS: As all products from Moroccanoil, this spray also contains argan oil, one of the ingredients in the so-called ArganID technology for protection against damage. The product is also rich in castor oil and sunflower oil. Unfortunately it isn’t a natural or eco-friendly cosmetic.
TEXTURE: I like it for being runny and lightweight. It’s easy to use and doesn’t weigh hair down. The spray has a nice yet short-lived scent, plus it lasts long.
